Meeting Grounds is een bijeenkomst bedacht door Paul Bailey met de grafische afdeling van KASK. Met gastbijdrages van Metahaven (Vinca Kruk en Daniel van der Velden), Dayna Casey en Katja Mater.

Voor de Amerikaanse essayiste en klimaatactiviste Rebecca Solnit is het essay een ontmoetingsplaats. Het is een proces van 'gathering up the shards and mapping them where they are, to find the patterns out there or make one … about the disconnections and the mysteries’. (*)

Op basis van Solnit's definitie van het essay nodigt Meeting Grounds uit tot onderzoek en tot experimenteren met het visuele essay als een werkwoord (essaying), een evenement (een bijeenkomst) en als een sociale vorm voor collectief redeneren.

Gedurende de avond komen we samen rond een aantal essayistische stellingen die gedeeld worden door onze gastsprekers; dwalen we door een reeks essays die (opnieuw) geënsceneerd worden door studenten grafisch ontwerp van het KASK; en bewegen we ons voort op en tussen een selectie nummers die gesampled en gearrangeerd zijn door een essayistisch oor.

Vrijdagavonden

Dit najaar presenteren we tijdens de Vrijdagavonden 10 weken lang een programma rond één of meerdere kunstenaars, een collectief of organisatie. We bieden lokale partners een platform. En we stellen kunstenaars centraal waar Kunsthal Gent momenteel mee samenwerkt. Iedere vrijdagavond is anders: van performance, artist talk en boekpresentatie tot gesprek, diner of filmvertoning.
