Tot in de Stad!: Documentary & conversation

Pay what you can

Vrijdagavonden: Sophia Tabatadze: Pirimze

  • Program starts at 14:00
  • Entrance: Pay What You Can
  • language: English

This ‘Tot in de Stad!’ (‘See you in the city!’) gathering is an opportunity for reflection, presentation and participation, around artists who engage with local residents and their surroundings. In the afternoon, we will share various practices and in the evening we will watch a movie together.

Part I: conversation + video 'PLOT' — 14:00

14:00
We will start in the afternoon at 14.00 with a snack and a drink, after which Sophia Tabatadze will talk about her contribution to the book 'Tblisi, it's complicated'. This book brings together critical, artistic reflections on the recent urban and social changes in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. The book can be an alternative travel guide, to be used on the spot or read from a distance.

16:00
At 16:00, PILOOT will show the video of 'PLOT' (40', 2023), about an open-air opera on the Tondeliers site and the Rabot, and talk to several people who collaborated on the opera.PLOT was organised by Stijn Van Dorpe, Kelly Schacht, Filip Van Dingenen and Danielle van Zuijlen, in collaboration with pKp, Joris Blanckaert and many people and organisations from the neighbourhood.

Part II: Documentary 'Pirimze' — 20:00

Sophia Tabatadze shows her documentary 'Pirimze', about the building of the same name in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. While this imposing building was still a centre of prosperity in the 1980s, it fell into disrepair in the 1990s when the Soviet Union broke up and Georgia gained independence.Craftsmen who used to work in Pirimze moved to smaller workshops in the surrounding district. The film shows these workshops and their fascinating crafts.Tabatadze also moved to the renovated business centre Pirimze Plaza, which replaced Pirimze. Was this transformation really necessary? After the screening, we will discuss Tabatadze's film together.

Tot In De Stad!

‘Tot in de Stad!’ is a network of Ghent organisations working on projects in the city's public and semi-public spaces.Together they organise reflection, presentation and participation moments (WIP - work in progress), during which artists share their work and experiences. The meetings take place at a different partner each time. This edition was put together by the Stadsatelier by Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER PILOOT and Kunsthal Gent. Partners in 2023: Manoeuvre, PILOOT, Jong Gewei, CAMPUSatelier, VIERNULVIER, de Koer, Kunsthal Gent, KASK & Conservatorium en LUCA School of Arts.

Friday Evenings

This autumn, we will present a programme around one or more artists, a collective or organisation for 10 weeks during the Friday Evenings. We offer local partners a platform. And we put artists with whom Kunsthal Gent currently collaborates in the spotlight. Every Friday evening is different: from performance, artist talk and book presentation to conversation, dinner or film screening.
