Between 30 September 2022 and 29 January 2023, 'The New Organisation' is developing six exhibitions in Kunsthal Gent's Oud Huis, in the programme line REFUGE.
The New Organisation, a multipolar project driven by Ben Benaouisse, aims to act as a NGO for visual artists. The aim is to be active where the need is greatest. New concepts are invented, old working methods are questioned and rethought. In this way, the organisation seeks a simultaneous operation where each segment can work independently.
The New Organisation creates projects for artists, produces new artworks and establishes artistic institutions. Appropriate expertise is sought where local and international artists are still in need within the current artistic landscape.
In addition, The New Organisation works as an independent label for professional or amateur artists whose work is hardly or not visible inside or outside Ghent. It offers a platform to artists who have already built up a consistent body of work, but lack a network to take a step further within their artistic career. The artistic, logistical, administrative and financial needs are listened to. And tailor-made collaborations are set up for each artist.
The New Organisation works instinctively and is open to all art forms, regardless of the artist's previous history. It explores new ways of working to make art accessible to all. In this way, it brings together a diverse group of artists.

Ghent is rich in emerging artists and organisations. But the spaces where they can present their work are scarce. With the programme line REFUGE, Kunsthal Gent wants to contribute to a solution.
Three times a year, Kunsthal Gent hands out the Oud Huis (the second exhibition space) to up-and-coming organisations in the Ghent visual arts. With a complete carte blanche and a budget to make ambitious plans possible, REFUGE is a platform for experimentation and discovery in Ghent.
