Lochness:
Nessy Xtreme

Between April 7 and June 25 2023, Lochness is developing the Old House of Kunsthal Gent into a modular skate park, in the programme line REFUGE.

Lochness is a collective and artist run space from Ghent that focuses on the gap between art education and the cultural field. Over the next three months, Lochness will transform the Oud Huis of Kunsthal Gent into a modular skate park where skaters, artists and the public can meet. During their stay in the Refuge* they will use the skate park as a platform for an interdisciplinary program.

Lochness is also inviting The Paint Factory, Spare Wheel and Medusa. Three young collectives who in turn will host an event and fill out a billboard in the space. In addition, you can expect zine launches, music and more.

Nessy Xtreme is open every weekend from 11:00 — 18:00 until June 25th.

Over Lochness
  • "We're an independent, non-profit, experimental artist run space. None of that was really a choice" - Lochness
  • Opened in February 22 in a garage on the Rooigemlaan in Ghent
  • Organized several exhibitions there until February 2023 with young artists and other art, zine and music events
  • Run by 4 young artists/graphic designers/students: Mundi, Steven, Louis and Luka.
  • Received a European youth and participation grant for 2023
  • Is now temporarily housed in the "Refuge" of the Kunsthal Gent. In the summer of 2023 they will occupy a new space of their own.
Kunsthal Gent / Refuge*

Ghent is rich in emerging artists and organisations. But the spaces where they can present their work are scarce. With the programme line REFUGE, Kunsthal Gent wants to contribute to a solution.

Three times a year, Kunsthal Gent hands out the Oud Huis (the second exhibition space) to up-and-coming organisations in the Ghent visual arts. With a complete carte blanche and a budget to make ambitious plans possible, REFUGE is a platform for experimentation and discovery in Ghent.
