Olivier Goethals (BE)

De Gentse kunstenaar en architect Olivier Goethals presenteert op de opening van Kunsthal Gent een indrukwekkende ruimtelijke interventie die fungeert als nieuw platform binnen de bestaande structuur. Als een structureel meubel accommodeert het de ruimte voor nieuw gebruik. Door deze ingreep verschuift tevens de publieksingang van de Lange Steenstraat naar de Vrouwebroersstraat. De nieuwe ingang biedt een uitnodigend doorzicht naar de monumentale zaalkerk.

KHG 01 is de eerste van een reeks ingrepen in dialoog met het artistieke programma. Zo verandert het monumentale gebouw, stapsgewijs tot haar nieuwe gedaante als ‘een stad van hedendaagse kunst’ waarin verschillende identiteiten samenkomen en op elkaar inspelen. De ingrepen van Olivier Goethals vormen de ruimtelijke drager voor de veranderingen.

Olivier Goethals (1980, woont en werkt in Gent) studeerde architectuur en stedenbouw. Hij maakt zowel architecturale ingrepen als artistiek werk dat breed de verbanden onderzoekt tussen ruimte en bewustzijn. Olivier realiseerde ruimtelijke interventies en installaties voor plekken als Z33 Hasselt, CIAP Hasselt, Extra City Antwerpen, Gallery Marion De Cannière Antwerpen, Be-Part Waregem, NUCLEO Gent, LUCA Gent, ... Hij werkte 8 jaar als freelance projectarchitect bij De Vylder Vinck Taillieu en doceert sinds 2010 aan de KULeuven afdeling Architectuur. Hij was gastdocent bij o.a. RUGent faculteit Architectuur, LUCA Gent experimenteel atelier & ETH Zurich faculteit architectuur. Hij staat in voor het ontwerp en de uitvoering van ruimtelijke interventies voor kunstcollectief 019.
