Door ANGER, HAT, CRIME, VIOLENCE, RACISM, WAR op kilo's aardappelen te schrijven, suggereer ik sterk dat deze woorden moeten worden GESCHILD, GEWASSEN, SCHOONGEMAAKT, GESNEDEN, GEKOOKT, waardoor deze termen als ouderwets worden bestempeld en aan vervanging toe zijn. Ik voer deze taak metaforisch uit door de aardappelen te schillen, te koken en op te eten, waarbij ik een getransformeerd landschap achterlaat dat ontdaan is van alle bovengenoemde kenmerken.

Tijdens de performance verandert de installatie/het landschap voortdurend, met overal in de ruimte geschilde aardappelschil, schoongemaakte en gekookte aardappelen in borden, kokend water, kookpannen, vocht, rook en de geur van het eten.

Ik nodig mensen uit om mee te doen met de actie, soms raakt het publiek geïnspireerd en doet spontaan mee met de performance.

Monali Meher

Sinds 1998 omvat Meher's kunstpraktijk verschillende disciplines. De belangrijkste daarvan is performancekunst. Verval, hybridisatie & transformatie: het creëren van een nieuwe identiteit; het opnieuw vormgeven van bezittingen; intimiteit; een dialoog van materie en geheugen vormen de taal van haar werk. "Tijd" als factor, of het nu gaat om een ingepakt object of een performance. De aspecten van continuïteit, herhaling, kwetsbaarheid, tijdelijkheid, site-specificiteit en publieke betrokkenheid zijn ook inherente kwaliteiten. Monali Meher behaalde haar BFA aan de J.J. school of Arts, Mumbai India en studeerde aan de Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam.
