Elke Van Kerckvoorde (Ghent 1992) studied at Luca School of Arts in Ghent (Master Visual Arts 2014)
Within the development programme of Kunsthal Gent, she is working on a project on the boundary between visual art, graphic design and crafts, in collaboration with stained glass studio Mestdagh and several artists and designers. The founder of the studio, Albert Mestdagh, learned the trade the Patershol, around the corner from the abbey where Kunsthal Ghent is situated. In 1947 he started his own studio, that after several generations recently moved to Merelbeke and is now run by his granddaughter Katrien Mestdagh.
Van Kerckvoorde, initially a painter, uses a variety of graphic techniques in her work. She pushes the graphic craft away from its original definition, diffusing the boundary between visual art and craft.
Work period in the Development Programme: October — December 2019
