Development Programme: Permanently Practising
The development programme “Permanently Practising” offers the context of Kunsthal Gent — an experimental intersection for contemporary art located in a 13th-century monastery in the centre of Ghent — as a working space and opportunity for the development of artistic practice.
Every year, we offer six artists, collectives or collaborative initiatives a trajectory in the development programme, with a fellowship of €5,000 in total (incl VAT) and up to 3 weeks’ use of the apartment at Kunsthal Gent, possibly spread over the year. This is a period of research and development, with the aim of exploring a new direction, building new collaborations and/or experimenting with ideas they did not previously find the support or courage for.
A working period is supported by a team of stakeholders and experts that the participant helps to put together. The focus is on experimentation, collaboration, collectivity and/or making our society more inclusive. The working period is not result-oriented. However, participants are invited to make an experimental mark on Kunsthal Gent’s public programme. This can be through a publication, lecture or other presentation during a Friday night event, a walk, workshop or any other final event that proves most appropriate in the artists’ trajectory.
