Kunsthal Gent is an important intersection for Ghent-based artists. It is a place where local and international talent meet, where new ideas and initiatives emerge, and where surprising collaborations flourish.
However, many of these ideas and ambitions — which we would like to provide with time, resources, and space — we cannot honor. This deficiency hinders the artists and is a missed opportunity for the visual arts in Ghent, for our city, and its residents. This is because artists are crucial. They enrich our society by posing critical questions, challenging our perspectives, and nurturing our environment with creativity.
That is why Kunsthal Gent, in addition to our existing activities, is establishing the Artists’ Fund, through which we make extra opportunities possible for Ghent-based artists. This includes things like an exchange with international partners, the distribution of works across our city, or a long-term development trajectory with various local Ghent players.
The Fund is sustained by a supportive network of visitors, allies, patrons, and entrepreneurs. Even artists support one another. Thanks to the initial donations, including those from the buyers of Zomersalon: Buy Local 2025 (€11,800) and Nastio Mosquito, who donated a portion of his proceeds from ‘Mosquito flees,’ the fund has already cautiously launched this year.
