Louise Delanghe Fund

Louise Delanghe (1994 – 2025) was a young, driven, and talented artist from Ghent. As a tribute to her daughter and as a token of confidence in bold young artists, her mother Patty Delanghe, together with Kunsthal Gent, is launching the Louise Delanghe Fund: a fund for young, starting, searching, and struggling artists who could use a helping hand.

Louise Delanghe Fund

The Louise Delanghe Fund is not a fund for established names, but for young, experimental artists with a connection to Ghent, in the early stages of their professional development. It is a push in the right direction for those who are still searching, trying, and growing.

The fund is deliberately being shaped in consultation with young artists. In the autumn of 2026, during the Temporary Centre for Shared Practice, we will determine together how best to allocate the resources. Microgrants, residencies, production support, mentorships, publications, or presentation opportunities? The artists will help choose what is most meaningful to them.

What the family has already decided on is the annual presentation of the Louise Delanghe Prize. This will be awarded for the first time in 2026 to a graduating master’s student in Fine Arts at KASK. If sufficient funds are available, this prize will also be awarded at Luca School of Arts starting in 2027.

About Louise Delanghe

For Louise Delanghe, painting was a way of thinking, of looking, of living. There was no other option than making art. Louise saw painting as an open terrain, in which she could constantly explore new routes. Her work moved freely through art history, without attaching itself to a single style or recognizable visual language. Every series formed a new beginning, every exhibition a next step in a continuous quest. The statement “If painting is the sea, I want to be the ultimate surfer” typified her.

Following her education at the Kunsthumaniora Sint-Lucas in Ghent, Louise studied printmaking at the KASK & Conservatory from 2012 to 2017. Those years were defining, both for Louise as an artist and as a human being. After a long period in Ostend, she lived nomadically. New places, cultures, and encounters provided an inexhaustible breeding ground for her work. Everything she did was driven by curiosity: for images, for history, and for the possibilities of painting itself.

In her career, she evolved from printmaking to other disciplines, with a distinct love for painting. She went her own way. Sometimes stubborn, always searching. Her last exhibitions were Painting After Painting at S.M.A.K. and Trans Europa Express at Kunsthaus NRW in Kornelimünster (Aachen). Many projects and exhibitions were still to follow.
