Palestine Solidarity vzw is campaigning, together with the Association Belgo Palestinienne, for the establishment of Apartheid Free Zones in Belgium. Kunsthal Gent has joined this initiative. In this way, we want to send a strong signal against all forms of discrimination and raise awareness about the genocide of Palestinians by Israel.
The Apartheid Free Zone campaign aims to play a leading role in the creation of spaces and places that are free from racism, discrimination, and blatant human rights violations such as apartheid. Participating in the campaign means that as a public space, you take on your exemplary function by actively promoting universal human rights. This commitment can, among other things, be put into practice by excluding products from the illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and halting collaborations with Israeli and international companies that profit from or participate in the occupation.
Culturele Boycot Israël
Together with more than 875 Dutch and Belgian artists and more than 300 cultural institutions, we are proceeding with a cultural boycott of Israel. We no longer wish to stand on the sidelines of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and a genocide against the Palestinian people, which is recognized by all authoritative institutions.
What does the cultural boycott entail? Participating artists and institutions will:
- Publicly declare: we support the boycott
- No longer participate in art projects financed by the Israeli state (or complicit organizations)
- Not enter into new collaborations with such parties
- Not participate in practices that treat Israeli and Palestinian perspectives as ‘equal’ without addressing the history of injustice and oppression
The boycott targets the Israeli state and all Israeli institutions and companies. Excluded are organizations that are not complicit in violations of international law and have unequivocally spoken out against the genocide, the illegal occupation, and the apartheid. The boycott is explicitly not aimed at individuals or their origin, thus not at Israelis as such, but at the complicity of Israeli institutions and companies in the human rights violations against the Palestinians.
