Double Book Launch: Fever, Form, and Incident

Victor Verhelst & Lemon Press are hosting the double book launch of Fever Dream, August and Construction of Incident at Kunsthal Gent. During the event, both the artist and editor will give short talks about their process at 20:00. All publications will be available for purchase afterwards, along with drinks hosted by Kunsthal Gent’s bar, Sheela’s. During the booklaunch, the publications will be presented on furniture by collective Sidequest, alongside build work by August Grootveld. Following this, musician Nele De Gussem will provide a musical soundscape. All publications will be available for purchase afterwards, with drinks offered by the Kunsthal bar Sheela’s. The lectures are free of charge.

Victor Verhelst — Fever Dream

Fever Dream approaches graphic design as an artistic medium in its own right. Victor Verhelst created a large artwork that spans the back covers of all copies; when placed together, they form one continuous piece. Each owner therefore holds a fragment of the complete artwork, something made possible only through digital production. The project emphasises the idea that book design and printed matter are themselves small artworks, made with the same attention, intention and devotion as traditional art.

Currently in the running for the Henry van de Velde 2025 Award in the Graphics category, this self-initiated a 400-page publication showcases his artistic work from recent years, created together with graphic designers Corbin Mahieu and Lennart van de Bossche in collaboration with Fedrigoni Papers.

Lemon Press — August

What if architecture could be discovered rather than designed? August documents August Grootveld’s ad-hoc search for structure; a daily, intuitive process guided by the act of making. The need to make a gate, something to pass through; a platform, something to climb. The method is just as direct: stacking bricks without a plan, finding what works moment by moment. If a structure falls, it’s broken.

Tomorrow, something new begins. here, construction is a ritual freed from formal intent or convention. The only rules are the physical limitations of the materials and the unwavering commitment to start anew. The forms that emerge are not born from a spontaneous dialogue between hand and material that intuitively seeks balance, enclosure, or height. This search might yield a large window to look through, high up, not because it was designed, but because it was found. It is both a search for control and a testament to what is possible when we simply go without.

Lemon Press — Construction of Incident

How do we construct an architecture that is informal, an architecture that exists outside of ourselves? The publication Construction of Incident by Lemon Press reinterprets industrial structures, typically shaped by practical needs rather than aesthetic considerations, by playfully translating their utilitarian forms into the visual language of historical architectural styles, resulting in structures that emerge from the interplay between two distinct elements: the causal logic of the borrowed industrial structure and the language of the style that is applied to it.

This approach creates an architecture that is both foreign and familiar, a product of a disciplined process rather than a free-form creative act. It is, in essence, an architecture constructed outside of the self, guided by a set of rules and constraints rather than by individual preference. Victor Verhelst (1997) lives and works in Ghent, Belgium. He is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across art, risograph printing, textiles, furniture and interactive digital technology. Digital processes form a continuous thread throughout his practice.

Nele De Gussem

Nele De Gussem surrounds herself with nothing but instruments; analogue and FM synths, samples, effects, loops, and her voice are her allies for this trip down the rabbit hole. Her soundscapes and songs are charged with angular rhythms, sonic experimentation, and layered, airy vocals. Her recently released album The Loom of Longing was designed by Victor Verhelst.
