Navigating the art scene poses numerous challenges for people of color (POC). To share experiences and insights, young artists from The Constant Now’s mentoring program, POC POC, have collaborated with seasoned artists, curators, writers, and thinkers. Together, they aim to craft the POC POC Manifesto to support other POC in the art scene and initiate a dialogue with the community and art institutions.
The POC POC Manifesto encompasses 11 chapters: Community, Collectivity, Education, Practice, Identity, Assimilation, Employment, Money, Well-being, and Language. Each chapter draws from conversations held both behind closed doors and in front of live audiences. To further enrich the Manifesto, we host POC POC Manifesto events at various locations and cities, inviting diverse speakers. Our goal is to continually augment the Manifesto with new insights to enhance its inclusivity, raise awareness, and unite advocates for a more inclusive art scene. Alongside these live discussions, the artists from POC POC will also showcase their work and talents.
The POC POC Manifesto remains a work in progress, with contributions from: Souhaila Maalem (artist), Günbike Erdemir (artist), Diego Herman (artist), Kapinga Muela Kabeya (artist), Fatemeh Towhidloo (artist), Diane Marie Uwase (artist), Brahim Tall (artist), Shen Ozdemir (artist), Fareed Aziz (artist), Maud Narfin Lonis (artist), Danielle van Zuijlen (Kunsthal), Joachim Naudts (Extra City), Sorana Munsya (freelance curator), Jessy Koeiman (artist, Kunstinstituut Melly), Paula Rodriguez Sardinas (freelance writer), Sofia Dati (Beursschouwburg), Rosine Mbakam (filmmaker), Guy Woueté (artist), Ndayé Kouagou (artist), Guy Woueté (artist), Marie Gomis Tresize (Galerie Gomis), Leana Boven (freelance curator)
