Sahjan Kooner: dankEconogy1_ALIENVillage

With dankEconogy1_ALIENVillage, artist Sahjan Kooner has created a multiverse, a multiple reality, encompassing ideas and processes around migration. The exhibition is constructed as a complex environmental installation that includes stories, migrants, materials, houses, biologies, technologies, mycologies and futures. Using the language of science fiction, from film to video games, the artist not only evokes a haunting, but also creates an imaginative multiverse defined by hope and love.

On Sunday 28 January at 11:00, we would like to invite you to a breakfast lecture by Sahjan Kooner in the context of their new exhibition dankEconogy1_ALIENVillage. Kunsthal Gent will provide coffee, tea and (vegan) breakfast cakes while Sahjan talks about their created multiverse.

Lysandre Begijn — Archaïc Asylum

Ghent artist Lysandre Begijn’s solo exhibition Archaïc Asylum uses nature as a starting point. In the pavilion at Kunsthal Gent, she creates a ‘sleeping garden’, where the seasons are cyclical, with moments of bloom and growth as well as die-off and sleep. Nature becomes a symbolic translation of the condition humaine. Man’s psychological fragility and human suffering is a recurring theme in Begijn’s work. Fascinated by Carl Jung’s theories, especially his interpretation of dreams and the subconscious, her work expresses states of mind such as madness, boredom, arrogance, apathy, sadness or fear.

go BOOM & Sphinx: Pillow Talk + Afterparty

Along with the opening night, the feminist collective go BOOM’s residency kicks off. Until 17 March 2024, they will transform the Old House into a clubhouse, in the programme line REFUGE. On the opening night, they will organise a ‘pillow talk’ with volunteers: a cosy chat about the future of go BOOM with chocolate milk and games.

Afterwards, we will party in theme of the PINX film festival, ism. Sphinx Cinema. With beats by dj Lab Rat and dj Genderzwerver!
