Maria Saygua André (1996, Bolivia) is a Franco-Bolivian artist based in Brussels. Her work explores textile knowledge and narratives between the Andes and Europe through installations combining sculpture, performance, and craftsmanship. Deeply engaged in socio-cultural projects, she conceives art as a space for transmission, social connection, and the circulation of knowledge.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, she has presented her work in numerous Belgian and European institutions, including Bozar (Brussels, Belgium), The Constant Now x S.M.A.K. (Antwerp, Belgium), the Contextile Biennale (Guimarães, Portugal), and the Royal Overseas League (London, United Kingdom). She has taken part in several artist residencies such as the Textiel Museum (Tilburg, Netherlands), Espronceda Institute x Art Nou (Barcelona, Spain), and the Fondation Carrefour des Arts (Brussels, Belgium). She has recently received several awards, including the Sofam Prize, to further her research into textile and ceramic practices in Bolivia, her country of origin.
