Mini Residencies

Throughout the year, Kunsthal Gent offers approximately six mini-residencies, with one week’s use of Kunsthal Gent’s apartment and a budget of €500 (incl VAT).

Mini residencies in 2025: Charlotte Boeckaert, Tripot, Pieter Vermeulen, Micha Goldberg+Rosie Sommers, Anja Veirman+Tiécoura N’Daou, YouYou Group

Charlotte Bouckaert is currently working on her new trilogy The photographer left, they told the truth, in which she intertwines photography and performance to explore the act of looking and imagining. What happens when a photograph begins to transform before your eyes?

At Kunsthal Gent, she investigates how the monumental hall church influences the presentation of two live installations, BOX and HAND, both of which will be shown during the Ghent Museum Night on December 4, 2025.

The Brussels-based artist collective TRIPOT is developing their new film essay Being A Creator at Kunsthal Gent, exploring reproductive labour, female anger, and inclusive feminism. In this project, TRIPOT works with three categories of imagery: historical archival material, contemporary social media footage, and newly created digital and AI-generated images. At Kunsthal Gent, they critically engage with this latter category through a panel discussion and a participatory workshop, creating speculative feminine forms that correct, deconstruct, and reimagine existing representations.

Micha Goldberg & Rosie Sommers are in residence at Kunsthal Gent to work on their new project ‘Drama in the Museum’. During the Patershol Feesten, they will test the grey zone between black box and white cube with a continuous performance during opening hours. More information here.

Critic, curator and lecturer Pieter Vermeulen is in Kunsthal Gent this summer for a writing residency, with the invitation to reflect on the different exhibition models that are simultaneously present in Kunsthal Gent this summer: Zomersalon: Buy Local (800 artists, no selection, for sale), For Some Time I’ve been Standing by Curatorial Studies (4 artists, 14 graduating curators), Mosquito Flees by Nástio Mosquito (with work for sale but whose remaining materials will be sold at the Patershol flea market following the exhibition), while Micha Goldberg and Rosie Sommers test how drama can become an exhibition. All of this in the context of the ongoing Endless Exhibition.

The resulting text (in Dutch) was published in rekt:verso magazine.

Anja Veirman (Fluid Futures research group, LUCA School of Arts, Gent) + Tiécoura N’Daou (Bamako,Mali) are collaborating on the montage of their film Textile Dialogues.

Charlotte Bouckaert

Charlotte Bouckaert studied sociology, photography, and scenography/performance. Her practice moves between visual arts and live performance, with photography as a point of departure. Challenging the still image, she explores how images transform and how perception itself can become performative.

Her works, including 11 SECONDS, THING, You are an Object to me have been presented at venues such as STUK, KVS, de Brakke Grond, Théâtre de Gennevilliers and Mu.Zee. In 2026 she will create new performances with Bronks (The More I See You) and with Platform0090 and KVS (I Never Looked Like That). Bouckaert’s work questions and activates the act of looking: what do we see, what remains unseen, and why?

TRIPOT

TRIPOT is a Slow Art Collective based in Brussels, Belgium. They create sensorial audio-visual art as part of their research-driven practice. Their artworks stimulate and at the same time investigate the embodied experience of looking. Through the appropriation and deconstruction of imagery the artists break dominant patterns of social discourse into multiple perspectives.

The collective was founded in 2012 by Aïlien Reyns and Marius Packbier. In 2016 TRIPOT grew out to be an artist-run production platform and has since then produced various international art and research projects.

Pieter Vermeulen

Pieter Vermeulen is kunstcriticus, curator en docent in België. Hij studeerde filosofie en cultuurwetenschappen aan de universiteiten van Antwerpen, Leuven en Praag. Momenteel is hij verbonden aan PXL-MAD (Media, Arts & Design faculteit) in Hasselt en St Lucas School of Arts in Antwerpen, waar hij cursussen geeft in hedendaagse kunst & theorie, artistiek onderzoek en zelforganisatie. Als redacteur en schrijver heeft Vermeulen bijgedragen aan talrijke kunstpublicaties en zijn teksten zijn op grote schaal gepubliceerd. Vermeulen is een ICI Curatorial Intensive alumnus (New York) en lid van AICA International.

MIcha Goldberg + Rosie Sommers

Micha Goldberg and Rosie Sommers have established themselves as a makers’ duo within the theatre landscape, with their production GERMAN STAATSTHEATER as a standout milestone — an absurdist and tragicomic exploration of the intense pressure to perform and the societal tensions it creates. The piece premiered in February 2025 at De Hallen van Schaarbeek (Brussels), with the support of several key cultural institutions, including De Hallen van Schaarbeek (Brussels), Beursschouwburg (Brussels), Toneelhuis (Antwerp), Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER (Ghent), KWP Pianofabriek (Brussels), VONK and Gouvernement (Ghent).

The duo’s work is rooted in the energy of collectivity, with a strong focus on questioning the very meaning of theatre. In March 2026, they will tour GERMAN STAATSTHEATER across Belgium and the Netherlands.
