Throughout the year, Kunsthal Gent offers several mini-residencies, with one week’s use of Kunsthal Gent’s apartment and a small budget. These residencies serve as a mutual introduction and may develop into a longer development residency, event, or a presentation.

The following artists have been confirmed for mini-residencies in 2026:

Peter Aers: performance artist, in residence from 9 to 13 March
Rubens Takamine: curator at Capacete, in residence from 16 to 28 March

Peter Aers

Peter Aers is a performance artist who focuses on the intersection of performance, conversation, and reflection. Until late 2022, he was part of the artistic team of Building Conversation, a platform for dialogical art that explores the relationship between art, dialogue, and society. He has developed several conversational performances and artworks — including Crime and Punishment, The Pain of Others, and A CURSE POEM — in collaboration with many others.

Rubens Takamine

Rubens Takamine lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His practice embraces installation, writing, education, and curatorial gestures. Through choreographies with plants, stones, people, clay, and discarded objects, he addresses themes such as the impermanence of matter and the spiral nature of time, questioning human exceptionalism at the foundations of modern Western thought. Smell, touch, and taste are senses he usually seeks to activate in his projects. Currently, Takamine is the artistic director of Capacete international residency.
