3 Publications: Kunstenplatform Plan B, Seasonal Neighbours & Kathrin Böhm

During Friday Evenings, we present a 10-week programme around one or more artists, a collective or organisation. On 8 November, Kathrin Böhm, Seasonal Neighbours and Kunstenplatform Plan B present and discuss their new books, with collectivity, the rural and fostering long-term connections as a common thread.

Veldwerk I-III

With Veldwerk, Kunstenplatform PLAN B supports artists/collectives in an artistic research project outside the city. Together, we ask open questions: a search for the value of the small-scale and how to initiate and preserve collective dynamics. During this evening, Kunstenplatform PLAN B presents the publications that were made as part of Veldwerk III. Nina de Vroome, Barbara T’Jonck, Tim Theo Deceuninck, May Abnet and Ánima O. Cassamajor brought their research to life in words and images.

Seasonal Neighbours: Seasonal Matters Rural Relations. (Field)notes on rhythms, rituals and cohabitation

What if traditional relationships, between humans and non-humans, plants, the weather and the rhythm of the seasons, are being lost in the race for profit and for increasingly intensive methods of production? In sixteen contributions, interdisciplinary collective Seasonal Neighbours attempts to observe, record and archive narratives for the existing, disappearing and newly emerging relationships in the countryside.

Kathrin Böhm: Art on the Scale of Life

Over the last three decades, Kathrin Böhm has expanded the terms of socially engaged ways of working to an unprecedented scale by producing complex organizational, spatial, visual, and economic forms. Kathrin Böhm: Art on the Scale of Life offers a significant addition to debates on contemporary art and architecture, social action, and public culture. Material derived from Böhm’s international networks and projects provides an in-depth impression of the deeply ingrained collaborative and durational nature of her way of working.

Kathrin Böhm

The work of Kathrin Böhm (London/Höfen) is operating in and outside of the art world, practicing in the real economy and connecting different trans-local communities. Main interests in her work are the collective (re-)production of public space, trade as public realm & the everyday as a starting point for culture. For Kathrin culture is an everyday activity and it is everywhere. The way we do things together, constitutes the spaces and economy we have and want to have. Her motto is to think things in the making, and her emphasis is on translating ideas for a better future into actualities.

Kathrin is a founding member of the international artist group Myvillages (Myv), the artist initiative Keep it Complex — Make it Clear (KIC), art and architecture collective Public Works (pw), and the Centre for Plausible Economies. She set up the Haystacks series in 2013 and arts enterprise Company Drinks in 2014.

Seasonal Neighbours

Seasonal Neighbours examines the ongoing material and social transformations of rural life, particularly by paying attention to agricultural practices, the food chain, climate, and seasonal labour migration.
The collective, based in the EU, brings together artists, designers, chefs, writers and architects whose practices touch on aspects of seasonality, temporary cohabitation, cultural memory, and practices of belonging.
We share a methodology of learning-by-doing and strive for a practice of neighbouring*. The collaboration results predominantly in site-specific interventions, rituals, audiovisual works and other forms, engaging us with places and their inhabitants.

Kunstenplatform PLAN B

Kunstenplatform PLAN B supports artists in various disciplines in producing, presenting and reflecting on their artistic practice. This happens through site-specific projects that come about both on their own initiative (e.g. Veldwerk, Die malle Jan, Kunstenfestival PLAN B) and at the invitation of various initiatives and organisations (e.g. Uitwijken, KONVOOI, Sorry Not Sorry). Recurring themes here are the collective, the non-urban and the small-scale.

Friday Evenings

During Friday Evenings, we present a programme around one or more artists, a collective or organisation for 9 – 10 weeks. We offer local partners a platform. And we highlight artists with whom Kunsthal Gent is currently collaborating. Every Friday night is different: from performance, artist talk and book presentation to conversation, dinner or film screening.
