Kunsthal Gent opens on Thursday night for an evening with artist Elien Ronse and maker collective manoeuvre. Together we will make candy-friendship bracelets! The Endless Exhibition and the exhibitions of Clara Spilliaert and Ailbhe Ní Bhriain will also be exceptionally open this evening. Welcome!

Candy friendship

As adults, what if we made candy friendship bracelets again for each new person in our lives? Through this, we can acknowledge and share the affection and love we feel for another person, no matter if we know each other for a few hours or for life. During Tumultingent, you can continuously participate in this sweet act of friendship, together with visual artist Elien Ronse (resident Kunsthal Gent in 2021) and manoeuvre, the maker collective for artists and textile makers that resides in Kunsthal Gent’s Oud Huis this autumn until 24 November under the programme line Refuge.

Tumultingent 1+1

The evening coincides with the arts festival Tumultingent 1+1, which sends singles to Kunsthal Gent for a blind date with a cultural edge.

manoeuvre

manoeuvre is a co-creative arts PRACTICE and PLATFORM for transdisciplinary arts, facilitating artists’ relational participation trajectories with diverse communities. The focus is on the intertwining of art, craft (with a penchant for textiles) and everyday life. They conduct a continuous practice research on co-creation, co-authorship and co-ownership where the process is as important as the result. Trust is paramount throughout the process. Chris Rotsaert is an interdependent artist and the coordinator of manoeuvre.

Elien Ronse

I am a white Belgian hetero female highly educated visual artist relating in non-monogamous ways and financially living under the poverty line (in Belgium). I engage in projects where different fields merge such as contemporary art, community work, political activism, theoretical research,… I am often traveling for work and until now I was supported by residencies such as Das Weisse Haus (Vienna), Pier‑2 Artcenter (Kaohsiung), Digital Art Studios (Belfast), Zarya (Vladivostok), YARAT (Baku, postponed),… I participated in events and exhibitions in Silent Green (Berlin), Pleasure Zone (Basel), Hotwheels (Athens), Barimart (Gwangju)… Next to that I am/was engaged in collaborative practices such as Manoeuvre, Cultureel Centrum Truck Stop, De Koer, Other Women’s Flowers, Para-instituut voor KUNST en precariteit (Gent),… I recognise all of them as a stage (to some degree) for my visual work. I’m holding an MA in Arts received in Dutch Art Institute, a degree in Social Work and I recently graduated from the Advanced Master program in Sint Lucas Antwerp.
